Mains Stopcock and Isolation Valve Replacement
This service is for property owners whose main water tap is stuck, weeping or turning without stopping the flow. We locate the supply point, drain down the local pipe run, cut out the seized fitting and install a full-bore brass lever or screw-down stopcock. You get a reliable way to shut off your domestic water instantly whenever work is needed or a leak occurs.

How We Carry Out Valve Work
-
1
Survey and boundary shut-off
We find the incoming lead or copper riser and shut off the street supply so the house stays dry while we cut.
-
2
Cutting out the old fitting
We remove the seized tap with a clean pipe cutter so the pipe ends remain round and free of burrs.
-
3
Fitting the new brass valve
We seat a tested WRAS-approved brass valve with matched olives and tighten it to the correct torque.
-
4
Pressure check and hand-over
We turn the boundary supply back on, inspect every joint with dry tissue, and show you how easily the new handle turns.
Questions about this service
Why does my current stopcock spin without turning off the water?
Inside older taps, a small threaded brass spindle moves a jumper washer up and down. When the brass threads wear smooth or limescale locks the spindle, the handle keeps turning while the valve stays open inside.
Do you need to dig up the pavement outside?
No, we use standard street keys to close the Thames Water boundary valve in the pavement box while we work inside your cupboard or hallway.
How long will my water be switched off during the job?
For a standard replacement, the mains water is off for between 30 and 50 minutes while we cut the pipe and seat the new valve.
Our Workmanship Commitment
Every valve, cartridge, and fitting we supply and install comes with a twelve-month installation assurance. If a joint we fitted weeps or a valve fails to shut off as agreed, we return and put it right at zero cost to you. Pricing & payment
Why Richmond Homes Trust Our Brassware
A crisp brass valve that shuts your water off completely on the first turn.
Instant isolation in an emergency
Why struggle with seized handles? A quarter-turn lever closes the supply in one second, just like switching off a light.
No reduced water volume
Full-bore valves have an internal passage as wide as your pipe, so your taps and showers keep their full flow rate.
Solid dezincification-resistant brass
We use DZR brass bodies that do not turn brittle or rot out from hard mains water over time.

What Local Residents Say
The quarter-turn lever action on this isolation valve is noticeably smooth. The courier arrived on Thursday morning, and I paid cash on delivery right at the hallway door. The parcel was a sturdy corrugated box with the valve wrapped in paper.
Marcus E., Richmond, GBThe 15 mm compression elbow fitted neatly onto the copper pipe, but the van driver missed the morning window and arrived late afternoon. I had to wait in all day. The fitting itself is fine and the threads are clean.
David W., Twickenham, GBI ordered this ceramic tap cartridge for my father's kitchen basin after his cold tap started dripping constantly. The spline count matched the photo, though I wish a spare retaining grub screw was included in the packet. The tap shut off completely once fitted.
