Thermostatic Radiator Valve Upgrades and Hydraulic Balancing

Aimed at households with cold spots, noisy radiators, or bedrooms that overheat while others stay chilly. We drain the central heating circuit, fit brass thermostatic radiator valves with matched lockshields, and balance the flow rate across every radiator. Each room maintains its chosen temperature independently, using boiler heat efficiently.

Questions about this service

Why do my radiators get hot downstairs but stay lukewarm upstairs?

Water takes the path of least resistance. Without balanced lockshield valves, hot water simply rushes through the closest loop and ignores the upper floors.

What does the number dial on a thermostatic head actually do?

The numbers represent room temperatures, not radiator heat. A setting of 3 closes the valve when the room air hits roughly 20 degrees Celsius.

Do I need thermostatic valves on every radiator?

You should put them on all radiators except for the room where your main wall thermostat lives, and usually one bypass radiator in a bathroom.

Do you add chemical protection back into the system?

Yes, we always dose the heating loop with fresh central heating inhibitor to prevent rust and black iron oxide sludge inside your panels.

Our Workmanship Commitment

Every valve, cartridge, and fitting we supply and install comes with a twelve-month installation assurance. If a joint we fitted weeps or a valve fails to shut off as agreed, we return and put it right at zero cost to you. Pricing & payment

Why Richmond Homes Trust Our Brassware

Room-by-room heating control with accurate brass TRVs and balanced pipe circuits.

Even heat in every room

Balancing ensures hot water reaches the furthest radiator upstairs instead of all looping through the nearest panel downstairs.

Individual room settings

You can keep your bedroom cool for sleeping while warming your home office, saving boiler gas throughout the day.

Prevents valve clicking and hammer

Our bidirectional valve designs allow hot water to enter from either direction without producing that annoying chatter.

How We Carry Out Valve Work

  1. 1

    Heating circuit drain down

We vent the radiators and drain the central heating water to safe disposal points using heavy-duty hoses.

  2. 2

Old valve swap and tail fitting

We spin out old manual tap fittings and replace them with bidirectional brass thermostatic bodies and matched lockshields.

  3. 3

    Inhibitor refill and air bleeding

We refill the system, dose it with protective central heating inhibitor fluid, and bleed every panel until warm throughout.

  4. 4

    Lockshield flow balancing

We tune the return lockshields with an allen key so every room receives its fair share of hot water at the same time.

What Local Residents Say

★★★★★
The quarter-turn lever action on this isolation valve is noticeably smooth. The courier arrived on Thursday morning, and I paid cash on delivery right at the hallway door. The parcel was a sturdy corrugated box with the valve wrapped in paper.

The 15 mm compression elbow fitted neatly onto the copper pipe, but the van driver missed the morning window and arrived late afternoon. I had to wait in all day. The fitting itself is fine and the threads are clean.
David W., Twickenham, GB
★★★★☆
I ordered this ceramic tap cartridge for my father's kitchen basin after his cold tap started dripping constantly. The spline count matched the photo, though I wish a spare retaining grub screw was included in the packet. The tap shut off completely once fitted.
